Beckley, W.Va. – Snow is continuing to fall across southern and central West Virginia, creating slick roads and travel delays that could impact both the morning and evening commutes through Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 p.m. Tuesday for areas including Raleigh, Fayette, Nicholas, Wyoming, Upshur, and Barbour counties. Additional snowfall between 1 and 3 inches is expected, with localized higher totals where heavier snow bands persist.
Cities such as Beckley, Fayetteville, Summersville, and Buckhannon are seeing roads quickly become snow-covered, especially on secondary routes and higher elevations. Snow bands may cause sudden drops in visibility, making travel conditions inconsistent across short distances.
Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and check WV 511 for real-time updates. Bridges and overpasses are likely to ice over first, posing an added hazard during peak travel times.
Snow is expected to taper late this afternoon, but lingering slick spots could continue into the evening as temperatures hover near freezing.
