Bristol, Va. – Light snowfall is making roads slick across Southwest Virginia this morning, creating hazardous travel conditions that will linger through the early afternoon hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Morristown, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 3 p.m. Tuesday for Lee, Russell, and Washington counties in Virginia. Additional snowfall of up to 1 inch is expected, enough to coat untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.

Communities including Bristol, Abingdon, Lebanon, and Rose Hill are seeing the greatest impacts, especially on higher elevation routes and shaded roadways where snow and ice can accumulate quickly. The Tuesday morning commute has already been affected, and conditions may remain slick into the afternoon.

VDOT urges drivers to slow down, increase following distance, and check 511 Virginia for real-time road conditions. Sidewalks, steps, and driveways may also be icy, posing a risk for slips and falls.

Conditions are expected to improve after 3 p.m. Tuesday as temperatures gradually rise, but patchy slick spots could persist into the evening hours.
