Charleston, WV – A Flood Warning remains in effect until 10 p.m. EST Friday for portions of central and northern West Virginia, including Braxton, Clay, Nicholas, Pocahontas, Randolph, Upshur, and Webster counties.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston, excessive rainfall has led to flooding of rivers, creeks, and low-lying areas. Additional 0.25 to 0.75 inches of rain is expected, increasing concerns for isolated rock falls and landslides in steep terrain.
Impacted areas include:
• Cities and towns: Elkins, Summersville, Richwood, Marlinton, Clay, Webster Springs
• Landmarks: Snowshoe, Holly River State Park, Cass Scenic Railroad
Safety Precautions:
• Avoid flooded roads—most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.
• Be alert for landslide risks—watch for leaning trees, water seepage, or shifting ground.
• Report flooding to the NWS Charleston at 800-401-9535 when safe.
