Kingwood, WV – A flood warning remains in effect for Preston and Tucker counties until 7 p.m. EST Friday, as heavy rainfall and ice jams continue to threaten low-lying areas.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pittsburgh, between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has already fallen across the region, causing rising water levels in rivers, creeks, and streams. The combination of rain, snowmelt, and ice jams could lead to sudden and rapid flooding if ice releases unexpectedly.
Flood-prone locations include:
• Kingwood, Parsons, Terra Alta, Davis, Thomas, Rowlesburg, and Hendricks
• Hambleton, Albright, Tunnelton, Aurora, Silver Lake, and Blackwater Falls
Residents in these areas should avoid flooded roads and unstable riverbanks. The NWS warns that most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. If you encounter rising water, turn around, don’t drown.
Emergency officials urge residents to report any observed flooding to local authorities. Stay updated with the latest alerts by visiting weather.gov/safety/flood.
