Marlinton, WV – A significant ice storm is expected to impact parts of Pocahontas County starting Wednesday morning, prompting the National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston to issue an Ice Storm Warning from 9 a.m. Wednesday until 7 a.m. Thursday.
According to the NWS, ice accumulations between 0.2 and 0.4 inches are expected, with wind gusts reaching 35 mph. Roads, bridges, and overpasses are likely to become slick, and power outages are anticipated due to ice buildup on trees and power lines. Travel could be nearly impossible, especially during the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes.
Officials strongly advise residents to avoid travel unless necessary and to prepare for potential extended power outages. Up-to-date road conditions can be accessed by calling 511 or visiting state transportation websites.
