Midland, TX – An excessive heat warning is in effect for Midland and surrounding areas through early Thursday evening. Temperatures are expected to reach up to 112 degrees in some parts of West Texas, with a heat advisory also in place.
According to the National Weather Service in Midland, the heat advisory covers much of the plains of West Texas and Southeast New Mexico. The advisory includes Lower Brewster County, where temperatures could still reach up to 108 degrees.
Residents are urged to take precautions during this period of extreme heat. The National Weather Service advises drinking plenty of water and avoiding outdoor activities during peak hours. Pets should never be left in vehicles, as temperatures inside cars can rise rapidly, leading to life-threatening conditions.
With temperatures expected to stay above 100 degrees through the weekend, the public should remain vigilant and take steps to protect themselves and others from heat-related illnesses. Prolonged exposure to such extreme heat can result in serious health issues, including heat stroke and dehydration.
