Tallahassee, FL – Coastal communities in Florida are bracing for severe weather today as gale warnings, high surf, and gusty winds move through the area. Hazardous conditions are expected to persist into Saturday morning, prompting advisories for residents and visitors.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, winds of up to 45 mph will sweep across Walton, Bay, Gulf, Franklin, Wakulla, and Jefferson counties through midnight tonight. Seas off the Gulf Coast will rise to 8-11 feet, creating dangerous conditions for small watercraft. Residents are urged to secure loose objects, avoid beach areas, and delay travel plans if possible.

High surf warnings have also been issued, with waves expected to reach 6-8 feet. Beachgoers are warned of rip currents and possible erosion along the coastline. Flooding risks will peak late tonight during high tide, especially around Apalachee Bay. Streets and parking lots in low-lying areas may experience up to three feet of water.

Looking ahead, Saturday’s weather will bring a chance of showers in the morning before cooler air settles in. Temperatures will drop to the low 30s by Saturday night, with frost possible in northern areas.

This active weather pattern will calm by Sunday, with mostly sunny skies expected and highs near 49°F. Monday will bring another chance of rain before drier conditions return Tuesday.

Residents should monitor updates, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow safety advisories to minimize risks.
