Waukegan, IL – Waukegan Police have concluded their supplementary enforcement efforts across the city as part of the August 2024 traffic safety campaign. The Waukegan Police Department participated in the Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP), adding additional patrol hours to enhance road safety.
Officers stopped a total of 167 vehicles during the enforcement period. The crackdown led to numerous violations, with 87 drivers cited for speeding. According to the Waukegan Police Department, other infractions included two distracted driving violations, two seatbelt violations, and one child safety restraint violation. Additionally, officers issued 15 citations for driver’s license status violations and 103 for other traffic-related offenses.
The initiative, funded by federal highway safety funds through the Illinois Department of Transportation, aims to reduce dangerous driving behaviors and enhance public safety. The additional patrol hours allowed officers to more thoroughly enforce laws and ensure compliance with traffic regulations.
