Portland, OR – Temperatures across northwest Oregon and southern Washington are expected to soar into the mid-90s and beyond starting Sunday, prompting heat advisories and an extreme heat watch for several counties along the Columbia River and into the interior valleys.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland and Pendleton, a Heat Advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. Sunday to 10 p.m. Monday for the Portland-Vancouver metro, Willamette Valley, Hood River Valley, and the Columbia River Gorge. Temperatures will peak between 92°F and 96°F, with little overnight relief expected. Farther east, including The Dalles, Yakima, Hermiston, and Tri-Cities, an Extreme Heat Watch follows a Sunday advisory, forecasting highs near 105°F through Tuesday evening.

Residents should limit outdoor activity during peak heat, especially from noon to 6 p.m. Cooling shelters are recommended for those without access to air conditioning. Authorities urge residents to check on elderly neighbors, keep pets indoors, and never leave anyone in a parked vehicle.

Cities like Salem, Eugene, and Vancouver are likely to feel the brunt of the heat, while Pendleton and Walla Walla may approach record highs by Monday afternoon.

Heat-related warnings could extend beyond Tuesday depending on evolving conditions.
