Spokane, WA – Eastern Washington and parts of northern Idaho will swelter under a prolonged heat advisory starting this weekend, with temperatures climbing as high as 101 degrees by Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, the heat alert begins at noon Sunday for the Okanogan Valley, Waterville Plateau, and Chelan County, and expands across Spokane, Pullman, Lewiston, and the Idaho Panhandle by Monday at noon. The advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. Tuesday, with widespread risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for vulnerable populations.

Communities including Spokane, Coeur d’Alene, Leavenworth, Omak, and Lewiston will see daytime highs near or above 100°F, while overnight lows stay in the 60s—offering little relief. The advisory covers key highways and rural routes such as US-2, US-97, SR-20, and mountain passes like Stevens Pass and Disautel Pass.

Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities, and check on elderly neighbors or pets. Despite the heat, rivers and lakes remain dangerously cold, posing a risk for swimmers.

The heat advisory is the region’s first of the year, and more alerts could follow if the pattern persists.
