Spokane, WA – A powerful winter storm is set to bring heavy snowfall and strong winds to parts of Washington and Idaho, making travel hazardous through Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Western Chelan County, Northern Idaho’s Panhandle, and the Central Panhandle Mountains from late Thursday through Saturday morning. Stevens Pass could see 18 to 24 inches of snow, while mountain areas in Idaho could receive up to 2 feet. Lower elevations, including Sandpoint, Athol, and Kellogg, may get 4 to 9 inches. Wind gusts up to 35 mph could cause blowing snow and poor visibility.

Officials warn that Friday morning and evening commutes may be impacted, with icy roads and reduced visibility. Travelers are advised to carry emergency supplies, check road conditions via Washington’s WSDOT website or Idaho’s 511 service, and consider delaying non-essential travel.

The storm is expected to ease by Saturday morning, though lingering snow showers may continue in higher elevations. Stay updated with local forecasts for real-time changes.
