Pendleton, OR – A powerful winter storm will bring heavy snow, freezing rain, and strong winds to Eastern Washington and the Cascades beginning tonight and lasting through Saturday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, the Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 10 p.m. Thursday until 4 p.m. Saturday for areas above 3,000 feet in the Upper Slopes of the Eastern Washington Cascades Crest, including Easton and Roslyn. Snowfall totals could reach 8 to 18 inches, with winds gusting up to 50 mph on exposed ridges.

Lower elevations, including the Columbia Basin and the Yakima and Kittitas Valleys, will see a mix of rain and freezing rain, creating hazardous road conditions. Snoqualmie Pass will transition from snow to rain Friday afternoon before returning to snow Friday night, increasing travel risks.

Officials urge residents to delay travel if possible. If travel is necessary, drivers should carry a winter storm kit, including tire chains, blankets, food, and water. Fallen tree branches and reduced visibility could make driving extremely dangerous.
