Washington, D.C. – A refreshing stretch of below-normal temperatures and lower humidity will continue across the Mid-Atlantic through Saturday, providing ideal conditions for outdoor activities after recent bouts of summer heat. Most of the region will remain dry, with only a slight chance of showers developing over the mountains this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, high pressure centered to the north will keep comfortable air in place through the next several days. Afternoon highs today will range from 64 to 78 degrees in the mountains and 79 to 84 degrees across the Washington-Baltimore metro areas and the Chesapeake Bay region under mostly sunny skies. Northerly to northeasterly winds of 5 to 10 mph will add to the comfortable feel.
Friday will feature another pleasant day with partly sunny skies and highs of 65 to 78 degrees in the mountains and 78 to 84 degrees across metro and bay locations. Winds will shift to the east and southeast at 5 to 10 mph, while humidity remains well below typical late-July levels.
By Saturday, temperatures will warm slightly, reaching 70 to 81 degrees in the mountains and 81 to 86 degrees across lower elevations. A few showers are possible over the higher terrain, but most communities throughout Maryland, northern Virginia, the District of Columbia and eastern West Virginia are expected to stay dry.
The extended stretch of pleasant weather should make for excellent conditions for hiking, festivals, outdoor dining and travel. Residents heading into the mountains Saturday should keep an eye on the sky for a brief shower, but widespread rain is not anticipated.
