Blacksburg, Va. – After a stretch of cooler weather, Virginians can expect a noticeable warm-up heading into early June, with above-average temperatures forecast across the state from June 5–11.

According to the National Weather Service and NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, a shift in the upper-level pattern will usher in warmer air across the Eastern U.S., especially the Mid-Atlantic. Much of Virginia, including Roanoke, Lynchburg, and Richmond, is likely to see temperatures rise significantly above normal — a signal that summer is finally settling in.

While the heat builds, precipitation chances across Virginia will remain near to slightly above normal. Areas east of the Blue Ridge, including Hampton Roads and Northern Virginia, may see occasional showers but no major rainfall events are currently anticipated. The western part of the state remains under a “near normal” precipitation zone, offering some relief to farmers managing spring planting.

Residents should stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours, and monitor local alerts as summer-like conditions return.

These conditions are expected to last through at least mid-June. Additional updates from the NWS will provide more detail as the outlook period approaches.
