Blacksburg, Va. – Drivers in northern Virginia could run into spotty showers this afternoon, especially along and north of I-64, as cooler-than-normal temperatures linger across the mountains Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, today’s highs will range from the low 60s in the mountains to the mid-70s in the Piedmont, with overnight lows dipping to near 40 in higher elevations. While most of the region stays dry, isolated rainfall north of the I-64 corridor could affect travel in areas such as Charlottesville, Staunton, and Lexington.

Wednesday brings a brief break with widespread sunshine and dry skies. Temperatures will rebound slightly, reaching into the upper 60s in the mountains and near 80 across southern and central Virginia, including cities like Roanoke, Danville, and Lynchburg.

By Thursday, moisture surges back in from the west, triggering scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms. The Piedmont is likely to see highs in the upper 70s with increased humidity, raising the potential for brief downpours or gusty winds during the evening commute.

With changing conditions expected later this week, residents should monitor local alerts and be prepared for storms Thursday afternoon. The next weather update is expected Wednesday morning.
