Roanoke, VA – Scattered storms are moving into western Virginia Saturday night, bringing a high chance of rain and isolated severe weather risks, especially west of the Blue Ridge.
According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, rain will continue through the overnight hours with the strongest activity expected near Lewisburg (77% rain chance), Bluefield (65%), and Grundy (71%). Isolated strong storms with damaging winds can’t be ruled out tonight, though the overall severe threat is diminishing. Areas like Roanoke (58%) and Blacksburg (63%) should expect periods of heavy rain through early Sunday morning.
On Sunday, another round of storms is possible by afternoon, with higher storm chances shifting east toward the Piedmont. Danville, Martinsville, and Lynchburg all face rain probabilities between 55% and 57%. Motorists should watch for slick roads and low visibility, particularly during peak travel hours.
Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded roads, secure outdoor items, and monitor local alerts. Rainfall totals could impact smaller creeks and cause minor disruptions.
Storm chances remain in the region through Sunday evening, with additional advisories possible depending on developing conditions.
