Blacksburg, VA – A winter weather advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday for portions of North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia, with freezing rain expected to create hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, ice accumulations could reach up to two-tenths of an inch, especially in higher elevations. Affected areas include Roanoke, Blacksburg, Boone, and Lewisburg. Conditions will improve in the afternoon as temperatures rise into the mid-to-upper 30s, transitioning freezing rain into regular rainfall.

Residents should prepare for slick roads and possible power outages. Authorities advise motorists to drive cautiously, reduce speeds, and check state road conditions via 511 services.

The highest ice accumulation is expected in elevated areas of western North Carolina, southwest Virginia, and southeast West Virginia. Those in affected regions should monitor weather updates and take necessary precautions.
