Virginia Flood Warning Continues for Nottoway River at Sebrell

Sebrell, VA – A flood warning remains in effect for the Nottoway River at Sebrell as minor flooding continues, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wakefield reported Friday morning. The warning is expected to last until early Sunday morning.

According to the NWS, the river stage was measured at 17.6 feet at 7:15 a.m. Friday, surpassing the flood stage of 16.0 feet. Water has begun covering Old Forty Road (State Route 634) in Sussex County, while the Peters Bridge boat landing and portions of the Chub Sandhill Natural Area Preserve are experiencing flooding. If levels reach 18.5 feet, the Hancock Peanut Mill in Courtland will be impacted.

The river is forecast to fall below flood stage by late Saturday evening, continuing to recede to approximately 12.5 feet by Wednesday morning.

Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads and exercise caution. The next update is expected at 7:45 p.m. Friday.
