Virginia – Sunshine is holding for now, but ocean winds will pick up and showers will move in fast, shifting conditions across Virginia Beach by Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, rain chances climb to 80% Sunday, with southwest winds increasing to 14 to 23 mph and gusts reaching up to 36 mph before shifting north. The combination of rain and wind will create brief periods of reduced visibility and slick roads.

Across Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and Chesapeake, today remains dry and mild with highs near 73°F. Roads stay clear, making for good travel conditions through the day. But changes develop quickly heading into Sunday.

By Sunday afternoon, showers spread across the region as winds strengthen along the coast. Roadways including I-264, I-64, and Shore Drive may see slick conditions and crosswinds, especially on bridges and exposed areas. Secure loose outdoor items and plan for slower travel during heavier showers.

Rain tapers later in the day, but breezy conditions linger into the evening. Temperatures fall into the upper 40s Sunday night, bringing a noticeable chill after the recent warmth.

Monday brings sunshine and calmer conditions with highs near 62°F. The cooler air remains in place into Tuesday morning, with lows near the upper 40s before a gradual warm-up begins.

By midweek, temperatures rebound into the upper 70s with mostly sunny skies, signaling a return to more typical spring weather along the Virginia coast.
