Massachusetts – Headlights glow through thick fog and damp air hangs over Boston, setting up a sharp shift to steady rain that will slow travel by Sunday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, rain develops with a 90% chance Sunday, along with patchy fog that may persist into the morning hours. Rainfall totals could reach around a half inch, with the steadiest periods reducing visibility and creating slick roads.

Across Boston, Cambridge, and Quincy, fog will limit visibility early, especially along I-93, the Mass Pike, and Storrow Drive. Conditions worsen as rain fills in, making for slower travel and longer commute times. Use low-beam headlights and allow extra stopping distance.

Rain continues through much of Sunday before gradually tapering later in the day. Some ponding is possible in low-lying areas and poor drainage spots. Winds remain light, but the damp chill will be noticeable.

Cooler air arrives quickly behind the system. Sunday night temperatures fall into the upper 30s, then drop to near 33°F by early Monday. Any leftover moisture could refreeze on bridges and untreated roads, creating isolated slick spots during the morning commute.

Monday turns partly sunny with highs near the low 50s, followed by clear and cool conditions Monday night. Sunshine returns Tuesday with highs near 51°F, and a gradual warm-up follows into midweek with temperatures reaching near 60°F.

Five Day Forecast for Boston, MA:

Monday: Mostly sunny, high near 52°F, low near 33°F
