Lombard, Ill. — On Friday, May 30, the Village of Lombard announced the new opening of Prairie Place Park. Located at 614 N. Main Street, the project marked an “intergovernmental partnership,” according to the news release.
The Village of Lombard acquired the property in 2020 in an effort to address stormwater concerns. Partnering with the Lombard Park District, the land is now built to store 2.8 million gallons of stormwater — with public recreational amenities.
“This project demonstrates how collaboration between local agencies can result in thoughtful, long-term improvements for the community,” Village President Anthony Pucci1o said in the news release. “Prairie Place Park strengthens our flood protection efforts and provides a welcoming space for residents to gather and stay active. We’re proud to partner with the Park District on this meaningful initiative.”
The Village of Lombard led the construction of the three pickleball courts, parking lot and sidewalks. The cost of this project was an estimated $82,555. The Lombard Park District will contribute by maintaining the recreational amenities and Prairie Place Park grounds. This partnership was affirmed by a 50-year Intergovernmental agreement that renews automatically.
“The Park District is excited to offer these additional outdoor pickleball courts, bringing the total to ten throughout the District, and we look forward to future joint efforts that best serve the residents of Lombard,” Park District Board President Greg Ludwig said.
