Springville, UT – A major beef jerky and snack stick recall has been issued by a Springville, Utah meat processor affecting over 15,000 pounds of products distributed nationwide.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), Springville Meat & Cold Storage Co., Inc. voluntarily recalled approximately 15,388 pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) jerky and snack stick products, including beef, elk, venison and buffalo jerky. The recall, announced Sunday, stems from misbranding and the presence of undeclared allergens, specifically anchovies.
The recalled products were produced over a two-year span, from May 30, 2023 to May 30, 2025. All affected items bear establishment number “EST. 20528” inside the USDA mark of inspection. FSIS noted the issue was discovered during routine production oversight, which revealed that a new Worcestershire sauce used in the recipe contained anchovies — a known allergen not disclosed on the product labeling.
While no adverse reactions have been reported, FSIS urges consumers to check their pantries and dispose of or return the recalled products. Affected product labels and lot codes are available via the FSIS website.
Springville Meat & Cold Storage stated that the labeling oversight occurred when they switched Worcestershire sauces and were unaware that the new formula included anchovies.
Retailers across the U.S. may have received shipments of the recalled items. Consumers with concerns can contact the company owner, Ryan Cope, via email at ryan@springvillemeat.com or reach the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-MPHotline (888-674-6854).
