Urbana, IL – Woman Killed in High-Speed Crash, Police Seek SUV Driver

Urbana, IL – A 20-year-old woman was killed early Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash at University Avenue and Coler Avenue in Urbana.

According to Urbana Police, the crash occurred at approximately 1:55 a.m. when a Honda Civic stopped at a red light was struck from behind by a Mitsubishi SUV traveling at high speed. The impact caused severe damage to both vehicles and injured all five occupants of the Civic. Urbana Fire Department responders extricated the passengers and transported them to the hospital. Two of the injured were released with minor injuries, while two others remain hospitalized, one in critical condition.

The woman, a passenger in the Civic, was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of her family by the Champaign County Coroner’s Office.

Police reported that the driver of the Mitsubishi SUV fled the scene on foot. Officers and crash reconstruction investigators are actively working to locate the driver.
