Marquette, Michigan – Patchy fog and light rain early Sunday morning may reduce visibility below one mile, creating hazardous driving conditions across parts of the Upper Peninsula through mid-morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, fog is most likely across eastern and north-central areas including Marquette, Munising, and Newberry through about 9 a.m., while light rain lingers along the western shoreline near Ironwood before clearing later today. Conditions will improve this afternoon with dry weather returning region-wide.
A more impactful system arrives Monday. Showers are expected to begin in western Upper Michigan as early as 8 a.m., spreading east through the day. By afternoon and evening, thunderstorms may develop—mainly across southern communities including Escanaba, Menominee, and Iron Mountain. Rain will continue into Tuesday, affecting major routes such as US-41 and M-28 with wet pavement and reduced visibility.
Drivers should use caution during early fog Sunday and prepare for slower travel beginning Monday, especially during heavier downpours. Keep headlights on in low visibility and allow extra stopping distance.
Rain tapers off by Tuesday afternoon, with drier conditions expected later in the day. Additional updates are likely as thunderstorm timing becomes more precise.
