New Lenox, IL – In a united stand against elder abuse, the Village of New Lenox, alongside the Safe Community Coalition, is all set to host “One Thing: Speak Up, Speak Out” – a dedicated event focusing on the urgent issue of elder abuse. 

This event, supported by “Will County Take Back the Night,” will take place in the Community Room at the New Lenox Village Hall, located at 1 Veterans Parkway, New Lenox, IL 60451, on Monday, October 2, 2023.

The event schedule is as follows:

  • 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm: Resource Fair / Informational Tables featuring 10 organizations.
  • 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm: Featured Speakers / Panel Discussion.

Elder abuse is a growing concern, and this event aims to shed light on the issue and empower the community to take action. Notable speakers include Will County State’s Attorney James W. Glasgow, renowned for his groundbreaking initiatives in crime prevention and prosecution. State’s Attorney Glasgow will address elder abuse cases, encompassing physical abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation.

Additionally, Matt Arbanas, Assistant Director at Senior Services of Will County, will discuss the Community Care Program, designed to support individuals aged 60+ in maintaining their independence within their homes. Arbanas will also delve into the Adult Protective Services Program, which investigates abuse allegations against vulnerable adults. Detective, Investigations Unit, New Lenox Police Department will provide insights into financial abuse and common scams targeting older adults.
