AURORA, IL – In a moving tribute that brought together the community, the Aurora Fire Department and Aurora Police Department hosted the annual September 11 Memorial Ceremony today at 7:30 a.m.

The event took place at the heart of the city, the Aurora Central Fire Station located at 75 N. Broadway Ave. Marking the 22nd anniversary of the tragic events in New York, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania, the ceremony was a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made on that fateful day.

The event featured several key moments, including a Presentation of Colors, heartfelt Remarks of Remembrance and Reflection delivered by Aurora Mayor Richard C. Irvin, and a Wreath Laying Ceremony carried out with precision by the Aurora Fire and Police Honor Guards.

The most poignant moment came at 7:46 a.m. CST, exactly when the first plane struck the north tower of the World Trade Center. Aurora firefighter Jason Matile rang a bell, and the community observed a solemn Moment of Silence, paying tribute to the victims and heroes of 9/11.

Aurora residents, City leaders, and public safety officials gathered to honor the memory of those who lost their lives on that tragic day. The ceremony served as a powerful reminder of the unity and resilience that emerged from the ashes of 9/11. This heartwarming event was open to the public, allowing everyone to join in Aurora’s commitment to never forget the heroes of 9/11.
