Union Pacific Railroad to Make Repairs in Wheaton

Wheaton, Ill. — The Union Pacific Railroad will be making repairs to the Main Street railroad crossing in Downtown Wheaton, the city reports

The railroad crossing will be closed for maintenance from approximately 9:00 a.m. on Friday, June 13, to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, June 16. 

The Union Pacific Railroad detected a defect in the rail at the Main Street crossing. in accordance with federal regulations, the defect must be fixed within 30 days. The repairs will provide safe and smoother travel for train lines and vehicles. Fixing the defect will also allow for trains to pass through Downtown Wheaton at normal speeds, which will minimize gate-down time and waiting time for drivers. 

There will be a posted detour for drivers to follow over the weekend while repairs are being made. Drivers going northbound can follow signage that will take them west on Liberty Drive, north on West Street, east on Front Street and north on Main Street. Southbound travelers will follow a similar detour in the opposite direction. Drivers will be directed to take Wesley Street going west, West Street going south, Liberty Drive going east and Main Street going south.
