Glen Ellyn, Ill. — Glen Ellyn Library’s Gallery Wall will feature community art inspired by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai throughout the month of July.

The library is partnering with Local Glass Studio to offer a masterclass titled “Create Your Own Hokusai-Inspired Glass Masterpiece.” The masterclass will be offered from May 28 to June 27 for ages six and up. Studio hours are Monday to Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Studio time can be scheduled online. The class is free to the public, but artists will pay for their own glass and supplies.

From July 1 through August 1, the Glen Ellyn Library will display the studio work by the community and other work by local artists. The Hokusai Glass Art Exhibit will be on the Gallery Wall on the second floor of the library. On July 9 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., there will also be a reception at the library to meet the artists of the collection.

The Glen Ellyn Library will feature an artist or group of artists on the Gallery Wall bi-monthly. The library accepts inquiries from artists about displaying their work on the Gallery Wall. Currently, the wall features work by local artist Tom Beck. Beck began drawing and painting to fill his free time after he retired from working as a football coach, Notre Dame analyst and NFL scout. He has dubbed his oil collection “eclectic.” Beck said that art has added enjoyment to his life.
