Gurnee, IL – Motorists traveling along the Route 21 corridor next week should be prepared for an increased police presence as multiple law enforcement agencies team up for a major traffic safety initiative.

According to a media release from the Gurnee Police Department, the coordinated effort will take place on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. The regional initiative is designed to reduce traffic crashes and encourage safer driving habits through a combination of public awareness, education, and targeted enforcement along the busy thoroughfare.

In Gurnee, officers will be paying particular attention to common and dangerous violations, including speeding, distracted driving, seatbelt compliance, and hazardous or reckless driving. Law enforcement partners from Libertyville, Vernon Hills, Lincolnshire, Riverwoods, and Buffalo Grove will also participate, along with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police. Each agency will tailor its focus to the specific needs of its community while supporting the shared goal of safer roads.

The Gurnee Police Department reminds all motorists to obey speed limits, put away distractions, and buckle up every time they are on the road.
