Boise, ID – More than 29,200 firefighters are battling 102 large, uncontained wildfires across the United States as fire activity remains concentrated in the Northwest, where several blazes continue to threaten communities, infrastructure, and transportation routes.
According to the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC), 102 new wildfires were reported nationwide on Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, bringing the total number of active large fires to 102 across 14 states.
Officials said the most significant fire activity continues in Washington and Oregon, where multiple large incidents are prompting evacuations and road closures. Fires near Spokane, Washington, including the Old Trails, Autumn Lane, and Fairview fires, remain among the highest-priority incidents as firefighters work to protect homes and critical infrastructure.
Additional large fires were reported in several western states, including:
- Nevada: Sand Creek Fire
- Montana: Middle Coulee Fire
- Idaho: Moose Mountain Fire
- Wyoming: Left Creek Fire
- Florida: Bluegill Fire in Everglades National Park
- Oregon: I-5 MM 57 Northbound Fire
Many of these incidents are threatening structures or transportation corridors, with evacuation orders and roadway closures remaining in effect in several areas.
The NIFC also issued its National Significant Wildland Fire Potential Outlook, indicating elevated wildfire potential is expected to continue across portions of the country through November.
Fire officials continue to urge residents in affected areas to monitor evacuation notices, heed local emergency officials’ instructions, and avoid entering active fire zones.
