Grand Island, NY – Two tornadoes briefly touched down in Western New York on Monday, affecting Grand Island and Pembroke. While the tornadoes popped up and dissipated quickly, residents were left shaken by the sudden events. No major injuries or significant damage have been reported.
According to the National Weather Service Buffalo, the first tornado hit Grand Island around 4:33 p.m., with winds of 85 mph. The EF-0 twister only stayed on the ground for a minute before lifting. Hours later, a second tornado briefly touched down in Pembroke at 8:32 p.m., with winds reaching 75 mph.
Though both tornadoes were short-lived, officials are urging residents to remain alert as storm warnings continue through the week. The NWS advises people to monitor weather alerts and ensure their homes are prepared for possible future storms. Residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel and stay indoors during severe weather conditions. Emergency responders are on standby to address any further weather-related incidents.
