Minneapolis–St. Paul, Minnesota – Clouds will thicken across the Twin Cities Thursday evening, setting the stage for scattered showers and thunderstorms likely to hit by Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, Thursday will start mostly dry with highs between 75 and 80 degrees. Rain chances increase late Thursday night, with Friday seeing a 70% chance of showers and storms. Friday’s highs will dip slightly, ranging from 68 to 72 degrees.

Drivers in Hennepin, Ramsey, and Dakota counties should plan for slower morning commutes Friday, especially along I-94, I-35W, and Highway 52 where reduced visibility and slick roads are possible. Outdoor events may also be impacted. Residents are advised to secure loose items and check for lightning delays if attending high school sports or community gatherings.

While the rainfall will bring relief from dry conditions, it may also cause temporary flooding in low-lying areas. Those using sump pumps should double-check power backups and drainage systems.

Rain is expected to taper late Friday, but NWS says additional updates could be issued if storm intensity increases.
