Kansas City, MO – Two tornadoes touched down Tuesday afternoon in eastern Kansas City and Independence, prompting concern but causing only minor damage along their brief paths.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, the first tornado was confirmed via video and radar debris signature near East Kansas City at 2:25 p.m. CDT. The weak twister tracked 0.25 miles across a parking lot before dissipating just two minutes later. Due to the lack of visible damage, no EF rating could be assigned.
Roughly ten minutes later, a second tornado formed in Independence between 2:35 and 2:44 p.m., cutting a 3.75-mile path through residential areas. It was rated EF-1 with peak winds estimated at 100 mph. Several large trees were snapped, and minor structural damage was reported. No injuries or fatalities occurred in either event.
The National Weather Service said both tornadoes were short-lived and part of a fast-moving storm system. While no active warnings remain in effect, residents are urged to remain weather-aware as conditions remain unstable through midweek.
Further updates may be issued as additional storm assessments continue across the Kansas City metro.
