New York, NY — A slow-moving frontal system is expected to bring significant rainfall and thunderstorms to the New York area through Monday, heightening the risk of flash flooding. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that some thunderstorms could produce locally damaging wind gusts, particularly on Sunday afternoon, mainly west of the city.

According to the NWS, rainfall rates could reach up to two inches per hour, which could lead to rapid flash flooding in urban and low-lying areas. Emergency responders are on alert, with residents urged to monitor local weather updates and take necessary precautions.

The threat extends beyond rainfall as Tropical Storm Ernesto, currently moving northeast over the open Atlantic, is expected to contribute to dangerous rip currents along the coast. These rip currents, coupled with the evening high tide, could lead to minor coastal flooding and beach erosion through at least Monday.
