Tallahassee, FL – A Tornado Watch is in effect until 9 a.m. Sunday across southeastern Alabama and parts of the Florida Panhandle. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns of a significant severe weather threat early this morning.

According to the NWS, strong to severe thunderstorms are moving from west to east across the region. Damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes are possible as this storm system intensifies. Scattered gusts up to 70 mph could result in widespread power outages and structural damage.

Residents in affected areas, including Dothan, Columbus, and Tallahassee, should prepare immediately. The NWS recommends having multiple ways to receive weather alerts. Individuals should seek shelter in sturdy structures if a tornado warning is issued.

Heavy rainfall accompanying these storms could also cause localized flooding. Travel conditions may worsen as the storms progress throughout the morning. Authorities urge caution on roadways and recommend avoiding unnecessary travel until conditions improve.

The Tornado Watch affects over 8 million people, with schools and hospitals in the region also on alert. Stay informed and prepared as this dangerous weather unfolds.
