Orland Park, IL – A Tinley Park man is facing multiple charges this week after allegedly fleeing the scene of a crash that killed a 23-year-old man in Orland Park.
According to the Orland Park Police Department, 41-year-old Robert Barajar was taken into custody without incident after investigators identified him as the driver involved in a two-vehicle collision that occurred around 3:13 a.m. Friday near 159th Street and Harlem Avenue. Officers said Barajar’s vehicle was traveling southbound on Harlem Avenue when it struck a car crossing westbound on 159th Street.
The driver of the second vehicle, a Romeoville resident, was transported to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox with critical injuries and was later pronounced dead.
Police allege Barajar fled on foot without assisting the victim or alerting emergency services. Detectives reviewed surveillance footage and gathered physical evidence to identify Barajar, who now faces felony counts including reckless homicide and failure to report a fatal crash.
Barajar has also been cited for speeding more than 26 mph over the posted limit and disobeying traffic signals. He is scheduled to appear at the 5th District Cook County Court in Bridgeview.
