Tinley Park, IL – South Suburban Humane Society Steps In Following P.A.W.S. Fire

Tinley Park, IL – Following the dryer fire at P.A.W.S. of Tinley Park, the South Suburban Humane Society (SSHS) in Matteson has announced its support to manage the intake of strays for the affected facility. 

The fire, which occurred on the evening of January 17, 2024, led to the evacuation of 97 animals, with 14 receiving treatment for smoke inhalation.

According to P.A.W.S., they will halt animal intakes until further notice. SSHS, located at 21800 S. Central Ave. in Matteson, will accommodate P.A.W.S.’s usual stray load, including those from Tinley Park. The SSHS is open from noon to 7 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Mondays, and from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

Residents finding strays outside SSHS’s operating hours are advised to contact the Tinley Park Police Department at their non-emergency number, (708) 444-5300. This collaboration underscores the community’s resilience and commitment to animal welfare in the aftermath of the fire.
