Austin, TX – Residents across Central Texas, including the Hill Country, should prepare for hazardous weather as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 6 a.m. Friday. Freezing rain and icy conditions are expected to impact travel, particularly on elevated surfaces, bridges, and sections of I-10.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), light freezing rain is forecast with possible ice accumulation of up to 0.1 inches in some areas. Precipitation began early Thursday and is expected to persist, creating slick roadways and hazardous travel conditions. Drivers are urged to reduce speeds, allow extra travel time, and use caution when crossing bridges and overpasses.

Rainfall totals through Friday could reach 1.5 inches across parts of the Hill Country and South-Central Texas. While temperatures will hover near freezing through Thursday night, the region is expected to warm slightly by Friday afternoon, with highs nearing 45°F under partly sunny skies.

The weekend forecast looks clearer, offering a reprieve with sunny skies and highs in the 50s to 60s. However, overnight lows will remain cold, dipping into the 30s. Residents should continue to monitor updates and prepare for possible icy patches even after precipitation clears.

For travelers on I-10, particularly near Kerrville and Fredericksburg, extra caution is advised as road crews work to address ice buildup. Local officials recommend avoiding non-essential travel until conditions improve.
