Houston, Texas – Thunderstorms and sweltering heat could collide Tuesday afternoon, creating a summer weather alert across Houston and surrounding Harris County.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and possible thunderstorms are likely between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday, with a second round expected after 1 p.m. as a humid air mass pushes into Southeast Texas. The chance of precipitation sits at 70%, and rainfall totals could exceed a quarter inch in localized pockets. Heat index values may climb as high as 101°F during partly sunny breaks, especially along the I-45 corridor and near downtown Houston.

Residents should prepare for slick roads, ponding in low-lying areas, and brief lightning bursts. Outdoor activities, especially midday events, should be adjusted or rescheduled. Drivers are urged to slow down on rain-slick routes like the Gulf Freeway and Sam Houston Tollway during peak travel hours.

Tuesday night will bring continued storm chances before skies briefly clear Wednesday morning. Unfortunately, the break will be short-lived.
