New York, NY – Water levels are set to rise quickly along the coast tonight, with minor flooding expected to impact vulnerable roads and low-lying areas by the late evening high tide cycle.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, coastal flood statements and advisories are in effect through tonight as elevated water levels combine with a recent new moon and persistent east winds. The highest impacts are expected around the late evening high tide, when shoreline communities could see minor inundation.

In New York City, areas along the East River, Hudson River, and Jamaica Bay—including parts of Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens—may experience water covering typically dry roads and walkways. On Long Island, coastal sections of Nassau and Suffolk counties, including Freeport, Long Beach, and Montauk, face similar conditions, especially near bays and inlets.

Drivers should avoid parking in flood-prone zones and use alternate routes where water covers roadways. Even shallow saltwater flooding can damage vehicles and stall traffic near key corridors like the Belt Parkway and Sunrise Highway.

Conditions are expected to ease after the high tide cycle late tonight, but additional advisories could be issued if elevated water levels persist into the next tidal cycle.
