Lubbock, Texas – Severe storms could hammer parts of West Texas Friday afternoon, bringing wind gusts up to 70 mph and hail the size of golf balls.
According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop Friday near the Caprock Escarpment, moving across the Rolling Plains through the early evening. These storms may intensify quickly, prompting the need for spotter activation. Outdoor events and travel—especially on U.S. Route 84—could be disrupted.
Friday will otherwise be partly cloudy with highs around 96°F and south winds of 10 to 15 mph. Friday night will stay dry but breezy, with gusts up to 15 mph.
Saturday will feel like full-on summer with mostly sunny skies and temperatures pushing 99°F. Southwest winds will hover around 10 to 15 mph. Saturday night remains quiet and mild, making it a good window for evening plans.
On Sunday, storm chances return in the afternoon with a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will stay hot, nearing 92°F. Winds increase slightly with gusts near 16 mph.
Memorial Day Monday starts a cooler, wetter pattern. Expect scattered showers mainly before 1 p.m., with highs dipping to 77°F. Monday night and Tuesday both include a 20–30% chance of rain and storms, continuing into Wednesday.
