Austin, TX – A prolonged extreme cold warning remains in effect across Central Texas, with dangerously low wind chills expected through noon Thursday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
The affected areas include Austin, San Antonio, San Marcos, Georgetown, and surrounding Hill Country and I-35 Corridor regions, where wind chills could drop as low as 2 degrees below zero.
According to the NWS, the coldest conditions will occur during the overnight and early morning hours, increasing the risk of hypothermia and frostbite for those exposed to the elements. Residents are urged to layer clothing, wear hats and gloves, and limit outdoor exposure.
Officials also advise checking on elderly neighbors, ensuring pets remain indoors, and using space heaters safely to prevent fires or carbon monoxide poisoning.
This level of cold is uncommon for the region, and infrastructure, including roads and power grids, may be impacted. Stay updated with the latest weather alerts and take necessary precautions.
For real-time updates, monitor the National Weather Service or local emergency management agencies.
