Texas – Warm, humid air is settling over Houston this afternoon, but clouds and instability are already building, setting up a round of storms that could impact travel by Saturday. Roads remain dry for now, though conditions may change quickly as moisture increases.

According to the National Weather Service, a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms develops after 1 p.m. Saturday, with rainfall totals between a tenth and quarter inch, and higher amounts possible in stronger storms. Storm chances increase to 80% Saturday night, with gusts up to 30 mph.

Houston and surrounding Harris County will see highs near 86°F today with partly sunny skies. South winds will keep the air muggy, signaling a more active pattern ahead. Travel along I-45, I-10, and the Beltway should remain smooth through today, but expect changes heading into Saturday.

Storms may arrive in waves Saturday afternoon into the evening. Brief downpours, lightning, and gusty winds could reduce visibility and create slick road conditions. Plan extra travel time and avoid low-lying areas prone to water buildup.

Saturday night brings the steadiest rain, with showers continuing into early Sunday. Conditions begin to calm Sunday, though skies stay mostly cloudy with highs in the low 70s.

Early next week remains unsettled at times, with additional shower chances Monday night and again Tuesday.

More updates are likely as storm timing becomes clearer. Are you preparing for rain, or still seeing sunshine where you are?
