Dallas, Texas — A return of rain and thunderstorms is expected to disrupt travel across North and Central Texas late Tuesday night, following several days of warming temperatures in the 80s.
Storms are expected to develop between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 3 a.m. Wednesday across Dallas, Fort Worth, Waco, Killeen and Sherman, where brief heavy rain could quickly create slick roads and reduced visibility for overnight drivers along I-35 and surrounding corridors.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, rain chances increase to 30% to 40% late Tuesday as a cold front approaches the region, bringing a shift from above-normal warmth to cooler conditions by Wednesday.
Heavy rain may pool on roadways within minutes, especially in low-lying urban areas and underpasses across Dallas-Fort Worth, while isolated thunderstorms could produce gusty winds that impact high-profile vehicles on open highways.
This is part of a broader system pushing a cold front into North Texas, ending the early-week warmup and triggering scattered nighttime storms.
Drivers should slow down on wet roads, avoid water-covered underpasses, and plan for delays during late-night travel hours.
The greatest risk for travel disruption will occur between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 3 a.m. Wednesday, when storms and reduced visibility peak across the region.
