Waco, TX – A tornado watch has been issued for much of Central and Southeast Texas through 4 p.m. today, with severe weather threats impacting over 40 counties, including Bell, McLennan, and Robertson counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, Tornado Watch 231 remains active until late Tuesday afternoon for areas including Waco, Temple, Killeen, Bryan, and surrounding communities. Forecasters warn that conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds throughout the watch area.
The alert includes key cities such as Fort Cavazos, Copperas Cove, Gatesville, Hearne, Rockdale, and Franklin. Residents in the affected counties—spanning from Austin and Harris counties in the east to Llano and Gillespie counties in the west—are advised to stay weather-aware and monitor local updates as the day progresses.
The National Weather Service emphasized that the severe weather system sweeping across Texas today may produce isolated tornadoes, particularly in the early afternoon hours. Emergency management officials encourage residents to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts and be prepared to take shelter quickly if warnings are issued.
Local schools and government offices have not reported closures at this time, but officials are urging caution for those traveling through the region, especially along I-35 and U.S. Highway 190 corridors.
Storm Prediction Center meteorologists in Norman, Oklahoma, continue to monitor the evolving weather pattern and may issue additional updates as necessary.
