Grape Creek, Texas – A brief but potent EF-1 tornado touched down in northern Grape Creek on Saturday night, churning up debris with 90 mph winds in Tom Green County. The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado’s 0.18-mile path after a damage survey conducted Sunday.
According to the NWS office in San Angelo, the tornado struck between 9:29 and 9:31 p.m. on April 19. Survey teams identified EF-1 level damage near the tornado’s core and multiple locations of EF-0 damage extending outside the main track, marked by cyan triangle icons on their map.
The tornado’s maximum width reached 100 yards, but no injuries or deaths were reported. Homes along and near Bibb Drive saw minor structural damage and downed trees. Emergency crews quickly responded, but the brief duration and relatively narrow path helped limit the impact.
Residents in Tom Green County are urged to remain weather-aware as spring storm systems continue across West Texas. While this tornado was short-lived, the region has a history of rapid-developing severe weather. No additional watches are in place, but updates will follow if threats emerge later this week.
