Chicago, IL – A Lyons man has been arrested in connection with a fatal 2024 expressway shooting that left a Chicago postal worker dead, Illinois State Police announced.

According to Illinois State Police (ISP), 24-year-old Angel Reyes was taken into custody Thursday on a warrant for First-Degree Murder (Class M Felony) following an investigation into the March 2024 death of 41-year-old Damian Dunning. Dunning was found with gunshot wounds inside a crashed vehicle on northbound Interstate 55 near Lake Shore Drive around 10:16 p.m. and was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

ISP officials stated Reyes was first identified as a suspect after an extended investigation into the March 3, 2024, shooting. On February 7, 2025, troopers attempted to stop a vehicle in which Reyes was a passenger. The vehicle fled, prompting a police pursuit. Reyes allegedly fled on foot after the vehicle was stopped and was arrested shortly thereafter. An AK-47 style rifle was recovered from the vehicle. He was charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon with no FOID (Class 4 Felony) and Resisting Arrest (Class A Misdemeanor).

After further investigative work, ISP agents obtained a murder warrant. Reyes was taken into custody April 17 with assistance from the FBI Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force.

Reyes remains in custody awaiting his first court appearance. No additional details have been released.
