Jasper County, IN – All lanes of Interstate 65 in both directions are closed in Jasper County Monday following a hazardous materials semi-truck fire near mile marker 230.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), the incident occurred between State Road 2 and State Road 10 and has resulted in a full shutdown of northbound and southbound I-65 traffic. Authorities have confirmed the fire involves hazardous materials, prompting a wider safety perimeter and emergency response.
Traffic is being diverted at Exit 230 and Exit 240 while emergency crews manage the scene. INDOT is urging drivers to avoid the area entirely and seek alternate routes, warning that the closure may remain in effect for an extended period.
The fire, captured by traffic cameras, sent heavy black smoke into the sky as responders worked to contain it. No injuries have been reported at this time, but environmental safety crews are on site to assess potential chemical hazards and damage to the roadway.
Motorists planning to travel through Jasper County are encouraged to use alternate north-south routes such as U.S. 231 or State Road 49 and check INDOT traffic updates for real-time information.
Further updates will be provided as emergency officials continue their response.
