Wichita, Kan. – Parts of southeast Kansas have received nearly 6 inches of rain since Friday, with Chetopa leading reported totals in a widespread soaking event that brought much-needed moisture to the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, Chetopa recorded 5.90 inches of rainfall by midday Monday. Altamont followed closely with 5.70 inches, while other high totals included Mound Valley (4.99″), Erie (4.70″), and multiple locations near Coffeyville, each logging more than 4.3 inches.
The heaviest rain was concentrated across south-central and southeast counties, including Labette, Montgomery, and Neosho. Parsons and Neodesha also reported over 4 inches, helping to ease drought conditions across parts of the state. Central Kansas saw lighter amounts, generally under an inch.
While the rain offered relief for agriculture and fire risk, it also caused temporary flooding in low-lying areas and rural roads. Residents are encouraged to monitor local drainage and avoid water-covered roadways.
Rain chances taper off this week, but lingering moisture may contribute to isolated showers Tuesday. More updates are expected as conditions shift.
