San Angelo, TX – A Red Flag Warning is in effect today, placing much of west-central Texas, including the Concho Valley, under critical fire weather conditions. Strong winds and low humidity are expected to heighten fire risks across the area until 6 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, winds from the northwest will increase to 15–25 mph, with gusts reaching 35 mph by this afternoon. Humidity levels are forecast to plummet to 10–15%, amplifying the potential for rapid fire spread. Residents are urged to avoid any outdoor activities involving flames or sparks, such as grilling or burning debris.

Highways near Abilene, San Angelo, and Midland may experience visibility challenges due to dry, dusty conditions from strong winds. Motorists should exercise caution, particularly on I-20 and nearby rural routes. Officials recommend securing loose outdoor items and monitoring local alerts throughout the day.

Looking ahead, the forecast for Tuesday (New Year’s Eve) suggests calmer conditions, with sunny skies and a high near 60°F. However, overnight temperatures will dip to the low 30s, prompting potential frost concerns. By New Year’s Day, highs are expected to reach 57°F under mostly sunny skies.

For the remainder of the week, temperatures will gradually rise, peaking in the mid-60s by Thursday, with dry and breezy conditions continuing into the weekend. Residents should remain vigilant about fire safety and follow local advisories.
